News Highlights Honorary doctorates awarded to distinguished cantors

On Wednesday, February 2, the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) awarded Honorary Doctorates to cantors in the Conservative movement who have served the Jewish people as Hazzanim for over 25 years, including four cantors who have had significant impact at Hebrew College: Faculty member Cantor Dr. Brian Mayer, who served as Dean of the Hebrew College School of Jewish Music from 2009 through 2019, and continues to teach Weekday and Shabbat Nusach, High Holiday Nusach, and Three Festival Nusach, and also serves as a Cantorial Coach; former faculty members Cantor Charles Osborne, a beloved Hebrew College voice teacher and cantorial coach, and Cantor Joseph Ness, who taught Advanced Traditional High Holiday Repertoire and Three Festivals Nusach, as well as other cantorial courses; and Cantor Wayne Krieger, father of current cantorial student Kochava Munro.
