The hidden novella implanted in Genesis, the Joseph story is a literary masterpiece that deserves to be studied as such—on the same shelf as similar ancient classics of world literature. More than any other Biblical story, Joseph is the story of us: The first Jew of the Diaspora who finds success and love but who also discovers that his “new” identity is thwarted when the “Old Country” arrives on his doorstep. It’s also the remarkable story of a family torn apart and seeking wholeness and repair.
