Last week, Netflix’s docudrama, “Testament: The Story of Moses” debuted at the number one spot on the streamer’s most watched list. The production features dramatic reenactments of scenes alongside talking head interviews from a variety of Jewish, Christian, and Muslim denominations. Commentary from these scholars and faith leaders elevates the production, contextualizing the reenactments with historical and contemporary perspectives.

Among these interview subjects is Hebrew College’s own Rabbi Rachel Adelman, who teaches Hebrew Bible to our ordination students. “God is a verb!” she exclaims at one point, highlighting the theological sophistication of the Exodus story. The production also includes insights from Dr. Celene Ibrahim, an Islamic scholar and spiritual leader who is a frequent collaborator with the Miller Center for Interreligious Learning and Leadership. In fact, Rabbi Adelman and Dr. Ibrahim have co-taught a course together on the Bible and the Quran here at Hebrew College

Hebrew College offers a heartfelt “yasher koach” to these scholars who spent last week at the top of the Netflix streaming charts!
