Humans of Hebrew College Firenze for the High Holy Days

By Wendy Linden
Cantor Louise Treitman

“This is the second year that I’ve led High Holy Day services at Shir Hadash, a small, liberal congregation which is part of the World Union for Progressive Judaism. It was created in 2003 and serves the non-Orthodox Jewish community of Florence, Italy. It’s just a few blocks from the Great Synagogue where Jinny and I standing. In addition to delivering my sermons in Italian, I incorporate musical selections from Sephardi, Ashkenazi and Italiani traditions which mirrors the make-up of the congregation. Jinny added her beautiful voice to services this year for the first time. The machzor, which is in three languages, is based on the British Reform one and is very similar to the American Reform machzor.” #HumansHC
