What does it truly mean to be a Jew? We have heard many responses to that core question throughout the millennia: unique laws and customs, meaningful rituals, or timeless ethics. For all the complexity and nuance about Jewish identity, I believe the two core principles that truly define Judaism are gratitude and accountability. In this course, we’ll study stories from characters in Genesis, ultimately turning toward Judah, who might hold the key to understanding ourselves as individuals and as a people.
