Dear Hebrew College Community,

We went to sleep last night with the news of the tragic deaths and injuries from the shooting at Brown University and awoke to the news of the horrific antisemitic terrorist attack in Sydney, as the Jewish community gathered to celebrate the beginning of Hanukkah. We are heartbroken about these devastating incidents.

The holiday of Hanukkah reminds us of the strength and resilience of the Jewish people. It is a celebration of the Jewish and human spirit to persevere in the face of discrimination, oppression, and hardship.

As we join Jews around the world kindling the Hanukkah lights this evening, may we find strength and comfort in community. As the lights of Hanukkah increase may they chase out darkness, bring us hope and resilience, healing to all those affected by the attacks, and inspire us all to continue to work for a more compassionate world.
