About the Program

Why has it become customary to read Psalm 27 in preparation for the High Holy Days? When did this come to be? What are the actual contents of this ancient prayer-poem? How has it been understood by Jewish interpreters throughout the ages? In this special GROW session, we will explore these and other related questions as we enter the month of Elul — the final month before Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Rabbi Rose will draw on a variety of materials, including from his new co-edited volume, Returning Higher: Hasidic & Neo-Hasidic Wisdom for the High Holy Day Journey (Panui Press, 2026).

GROW is Tamid of Hebrew College’s free, monthly adult learning program, offering an hour with us to Gather, Reflect, Observe, and Wrestle with topics that will deepen your Jewish learning.
