description

While you have undoubtedly learned about the Renaissance greats like Galileo, Michelangelo, Copernicus, and Monteverdi, have you ever wondered about the lives of Jews who lived in the Renaissance, and of Jewish women in particular?

In this one hour lecture, Professor Elisheva Carlebach will present the lives, intrigues, and accomplishments of Jewish women in the age of the Renaissance in their own voices, at least to the extent possible!  This lecture will also explore the cultural context of these very human examples and examine why more material about their lives is available than material about Jewish women from earlier times.  A beloved cousin of Jill Segal, Professor Carlebach is the Salo Wittmayer Baron Professor of Jewish History, Culture and Society at Columbia University.

This lecture is proudly sponsored by the The Jillian Segal Memorial Fund at Temple Aliyah in Needham, MA.

Jill Segal z”l was a beloved student at the Rabbinical School of Hebrew College.

How to Attend

The lecture will take place on Zoom. Please use this Zoom link or contact Temple Aliyah with any questions.
