This course examines Israel’s emotional and cultural landscape in the aftermath of October 7, 2023, through contemporary music. It traces how Israeli artists responded in real time, producing songs that reflect grief, anger, resilience, solidarity, and moments of hope. These works serve both as documentation and as a means of collective processing.
Each session is organized around a distinct emotional theme – shock and mourning, anger, strength and defiance, and hope – using music as the primary entry point.
Sessions center on guided listening to curated tracks, with concise context and structured discussion. Alongside the music, the course explores key cultural frameworks – from Yom HaZikaron ceremonies to Eurovision -showing how national moments and artistic expressions shape one another.
Participants will engage a wide range of voices and genres, gaining a clear view of how Israeli society processes trauma through culture, and how music functions as both mirror and mechanism in times of crisis.
