In this class, we will investigate different frameworks for understanding Jewish relationships with land from a variety of perspectives. Through the lens of Jewish text and tradition, we will explore questions such as: What does our tradition say about being in a right, balanced, respectful relationship with land? How do our individual and communal connections with food and earth impact how we understand ourselves spiritually, emotionally, and physically? What does it mean to care for land as a Jewish person and what responsibilities do we have, especially in climate chaos? How do we behave as a guest on the lands of others, particularly as we live in diaspora around the world? By the end of the course, participants will leave with tools to continue to develop and understand their relationship with the Earth.
Hebrew College Open Circle Jewish Learning classes are for learners of all backgrounds.
