Shalom!
Hebrew College Online offers four different levels of Modern Hebrew, and you may be wondering which level is appropriate for you. On the left hand side of this page under "Samples..." you can click on a Hebrew course ("Hebrew One" through "Hebrew Four") to view samples from that course. When you think you've found the course for you, take the Placement Test to be sure. The tests are designed as indicators of your "testing out" of a course, not "testing into" a course. Thus, if you score very high (more than 80%) you may want to take the placement test at the next higher level. If you feel that a test is too hard, try the test at the next lower level.
Please note: these tests are solely to help you make an initial selection of the right course for you. When you register for a course you will be able to discuss your Hebrew level with our Hebrew Coordinator and choose a different level during the two week "Add/Drop Period", as appropriate.
One final note. To view the Samples and to take the Placement Tests you will need a computer with sound and the "Flash" and "Quick Time" plugins. (If your computer does not have Flash or Quick Time you can use the links on the following pages to download these free programs.)
At the moment the Firefox browser has proven the most reliable in displaying the audio components in the placement tests. We recommend you use this browser for taking the tests. If you do not yet have this browser on your machine you may download it (for free) at this location
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to send them to online-hebrew@hebrewcollege.edu
