Student Home Pages
Our virtual classroom stretches across the globe. As the course progresses, we will get to know each other through the class discussions, but let's begin by posting home pages in the Blackboard course environment. Some instructions are provided below, and additional instructions are available in the Blackboard Student Manual (PDF | Web version).
To create or edit your home page:
- From within any of your courses, click the Edit My Homepage button in the menu on the left. This button leads you into your home page area in the Online Student Center, where you can create or update your student home page. Or, enter the Online Student Center directly , click Tools, and click Edit My Homepage. We have structured course menus so that you must be in the Student Center to create a home page, so that you don't have to create one for each class.
- Instructions are available in the Blackboard Student Manual. In the online version of the manual, the instructions are located in the Student Tools section named "Edit Your Homepage." In the downloadable PDF version, the instructions are located on pages 126 and 127.
- Please include:
- Your photo. If you don't have a digital photo of yourself, you will be able to get a photo scanned at an office service center (like Copy Cop or Kinko's) or a photo lab that provides digital serviceswhich is just about all of them now.
- A brief introduction to yourself.
- Any additional information you'd like to share with fellow students. What brings you to Hebrew College? Do you have any particular area of interest you are excited to pursue? Do you have any trepidations about studying online? (Note that there is no "rich text" option for the home pages that will translate your paragraph breaks. To format multiple paragraphs, start each paragraph with the HTML <p> tag. If you want to do more formatting, see the HTML Basics page.)
- A link to your favorite Jewish Web site.
- A link to your favorite general interest Web site.
- Continue to update this information as you progress through semesters at HCO.
After you create your own home page, you can use the Roster button in each of your courses to visit the Online Student Center and your fellow students' home pages: students' names in the roster are linked to their home pages. Looking at the roster, you'll notice that some students have their e-mail addresses listed while others do not. To list your e-mail address, select Tools in the menu on the left, click Personal Information, and then click Set Privacy Options.
