About Hebrew Orientation

Who: Students who are signing up to study Hebrew for the first time with Hebrew College Online take Hebrew orientation as part of the orientation program.

What: The Hebrew orientation course is a course Web site in Blackboard. It's structured just like the Hebrew courses, with sample course content; it also has an orientation component that introduces the tools, as well as instructions on using the orientation course Web site to master the communications tools you'll need to participate in class synchronously and asynchronously, and to complete and submit your written homework. A key component is installing and testing the Web conferencing software we use for weekly class discussions.

The Hebrew courses use several online tools to let you share oral assignments with your teacher, participate in class discussions, and generally have the same level range of interaction types you would have in a face-to-face language class. It's important to complete this orientation so that you can focus on new Hebrew skills once class begins.

When: Orientation takes place during the weeks before a semester starts.

Why: Taking the orientation course gets you accustomed to the course tools and format—it is required no matter at what level you enter the online Hebrew program.
