ARTHUR GREEN TO HEAD
NEW RABBINICAL PROGRAM

Dr. Arthur Green, recognized as one of the world's preeminent authorities on Jewish spirituality and Jewish thought, has been named the dean of Hebrew College's new transdenominational rabbinical program, which begins its pilot phase this fall.

"Arthur Green's joining the faculty is a momentous event for Hebrew College," says President David Gordis. "His appointment represents a significant and promising moment in the life of the American Jewish community. We welcome him with enormous pleasure."

Green, who will also hold the title of Visiting Professor of Jewish Mysticism at Hebrew College, is the Philip W. Lown Professor of Jewish Thought at Brandeis University. He will divide his time between his new position at Hebrew College and his faculty commitments at Brandeis.

Educated at Brandeis and the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, Green previously taught at the University of Pennsylvania and the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, where he served as dean and president from 1987 to 1993.

"It is with great excitement that I turn my attention once again to rabbinic education," says Green. "No task is more vital to ensuring the creative future of Jewish life. The dynamism and creative curricular approach of this program will soon set the standard for new ways of thinking about the American rabbinate."
