Hebrew and Text Study for Jewish Educators

If you’re a congregational or day school educator who wants to improve your Hebrew or knowledge of Jewish text, read on. No need to worry about fitting courses into your busy schedule–Hebrew College now offers Hebrew language and text study courses to practicing Jewish teachers through the Me’ah Graduate Institute (MGI).

Formerly offered exclusively to Me’ah graduates, MGI courses are geared toward adult learners with busy daytime schedules who want to gain a broader fluency in Hebrew or a deeper understanding of Jewish text study.

"The Hebrew classes are for people like our graduates and teachers, who just want more facility with reading the Bible or a prayer book, versus reading a newspaper in Hebrew," says Marion Gribetz, who joined Hebrew College’s Shoolman Graduate School of Jewish Education as Director of Professional Development in September. "We hope that this will be an entryway for educators to polish their Hebrew in a non-academic setting."

MGI spring semester course offerings, which cover both Hebrew skills and Jewish text study, include "Reading the Zohar," "Understanding Hasidism," "Maimonides on Parting from the Way," "Apocalyptic Literature in the Bible" and "The Hebrew Text of Judges and Kings."
