Leon Wieseltier Headlines
80th Commencement

Leon Wieseltier photo by Jill Krementz.Leon Wieseltier, literary editor of The New Republic and author of Kaddish, will present the commencement address at Hebrew College's 80th graduation ceremony on June 5. Wieseltier, a leading commentator on Jewish, literary and political developments, will also receive an honorary degree.

Other honorary degrees will be presented to E. Robert Goodkind, attorney and prominent Jewish lay leader with the American Jewish Committee and other philanthropies, and Leonard Florence, Boston lay leader and philanthropist.

The College's highest academic honor, the Dr. Benjamin J. Shevach Memorial Award for distinguished achievement in Jewish educational leadership, will be awarded posthumously to Dr. Gila Ramras-Rauch, z'l, internationally distinguished literary scholar and the former Lewis H. and Selma Weinstein Professor of Jewish Literature at Hebrew College. Shai Nathanson, director of Hebrew language programs and Ulpan at Hebrew College, will receive the Louis Hillson Memorial Award for distinguished leadership in and commitment to Jewish education. Paula Korman MAJS'93, an expert in the field of Jewish special education, will receive the Sidney Hillson Memorial Award for achievement in Jewish education.

Seventeen students will receive Master of Arts in Jewish Studies, Master of Jewish Education and Bachelor of Jewish Education degrees. Certificates for six programs will also be conferred. Separate ceremonies will be held for over 250 graduates of Me'ah and the Me'ah Graduate Institute, and more than 150 graduates of Prozdor.
